As Close as You’ll Get to Tracking Live
Ministry Of Rock 2 was put together with one goal in mind: to create a virtual instrument capable of producing sounds that could actually produce a hit record or film score without any live drum, bass, or guitar overdubs. To put a raging collection of guitars, drums and basses in your hands without the limits of location or budget. To give you the power to track an entire rock band with impeccable authenticity, all within your DAW.
Like its predecessor, Ministry of Rock 2 mixes enormously powerful sound with more tender timbres, while maintaining a high stand throughout. There are no ‘fillers’, and every instrument sounds like it has a right to be in there.
Legendary Gear and Performers
Recorded at the legendary EASTWEST Studios, Ministry Of Rock 2 features some of the industry’s top players like Shane Gibson (guitarist with Korn), Greg Suran (guitarist with the B-52s, Goo Goo Dolls), Doug Rappaport (guitarist with Edgar Winter), and Tal Bergman (drummer with Billy Idol, LL Cool J, Rod Stewart). The drums were captured with vintage and modern gear from Neve, Neumann, Telefunken, AKG, Manley, Fairchild, Royer, Chandler and Meitner. Repetition samples were recorded for everything as well as extreme dynamics and three mic positions for drums (close + room, or close + compressed room) to dial in the desired sound and an ultra-realistic performance. Any drum from any kit can be selected to create a new custom kit, plus there are 6 additional snare drums to choose from.
Ministry of Rock 2 is the only library I’ve used out of the box that produced a convincing virtual rock band.
Guitars
A collective powerhouse of rock, metal and grunge, every one of these guitars was hand-picked for historical relevance, attitude, and a general ability to skillfully handle technical performances.
Fender Jaguar
A legendary Strat-like guitar used by artists such as Kurt Cobain, Smashmouth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Johnny Marr.
1972 Fender Telecaster
This guitar features a warmer sound and a rounder semi-hollow ash body, a C-shaped maple neck, bullet-style truss rod, ’70s vintage hardtail strings-through-body Strat bridge, three-bolt neckplate, and two wide-range humbucking pickups.
Carvin 7 String
Rock/metal guitar with a full tone and 11-gauge strings, tuned to Drop C. Each note (for both the neck and bridge pickups) was sampled twice; during playback, both samples are automatically played together, though one panned hard right and the other hard left, for a genuine double-tracked sound.
Baritone
The Baritone guitar is a variation on the standard guitar with a longer scale length. The baritone played here is made by Danelectro and uses custom modified lipstick pickups. The greater length of the strings allows it to be tuned to a lower range and, together with thicker 14-gauge strings, gives it a wicked full tone.
Gibson Les Paul
A solid-body electric guitar originally developed in the early 1950s. It is a favorite amongst metal guitarists.
Schecter C7 FR Hellraiser
A guitar that metal players love, with its deep and crunchy 7-string tones and a Floyd Rose tremolo for breaking out tremolo tricks. Its Active EMG 707-TW humbuckers push the limits of high-output guitar mayhem.
Basses
Every single one of these has a unique attitude and placement in the annals of bass ministry. Some of the basses in this collection have been decommissioned and are nearly impossible to obtain today!
Fender Jazz Fretless
This 1961 Fender Jazz bass was converted to fretless and has an amazing warm tone.
Höfner Violin Bass
This vintage ’63 Höfner is the “Beatles’ Bass.” It has a two-piece neck, exotic bird’s eye maple finish, and gold-plated hardware. Many players revere Höfner’s Violin Bass as a legend because of its historical significance and its warm, woody, doublebass-like amplified tone. The Höfner Violin Bass is a unique instrument with a smooth, sweet sound.
Gibson EB2
Launched in early 1958, this is a hollow-body electric bass that features a Bass/Baritone push button for two different tonal characteristics.
1966 Silvertone
A solid body, single-pickup electric bass guitar made by Danelectro--one of the last Danelectro-made Silvertone basses offered before Danelectro went out of business.
Rickenbacker 4003 Bass
This bass has a strong ringing sustain, treble punch, and solid underlying bottom end. It’s also famous for its distinctive, elegantly curved body shape, deluxe triangular fretboard inlays, stereo output, neck-thru-body construction, double truss rods, and high output single-coil pickups with wide response range and brilliant clarity.
Lakland 55-94 Skyline Standard
Equipped with their familiar MM/J pickup configuration and a custom 3-band preamp--the master volume pot can be pulled to bypass the active preamp.
Music Man Stingray 5 String
The first bass to feature active electronics and advancements such as a 6-bolt neck joint, contoured body, superior neck truss-rod system, and rock-solid bridge. The instrument is constructed with a select hardwood body, maple neck, Schaller BM tuners, 3-band active EQ, and a Music Man humbucker/piezo bridge.
Drums
Recorded with a wide variety of velocity layers, you can play back every ounce of attitude as the professional drummers who were recorded to bring this drum collection to life. The result is a high-energy but honest sound that rivals a professional live performance.
DW
Featuring meaty hits with a healthy smack, the DW kits strike the perfect balance between attack and full body without ever becoming thin or muddy.
Gretsch
Crisp and bright with a hefty punch, Gretsch kits cut effortlessly through a mix and drive a song forward with their characteristically strong attack.
Ludwig
The attack of the Ludwig kits is powerful, but the moment afterward is where they shine. These drums possess a powerful twack and hard body, and high-end sizzle is captured in precise detail, especially on the cymbals.
Unless you’ve got a rock band stashed away in your garage, Ministry of Rock 2 is a must-have if you crave stadium-sized guitar and drum performances.
